From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
I chose this funeral parlour on experience of other friends and family.
Dawn was so kind from the minute I called. Rochelle did our arrangements and Dawn was there for us. I couldn't have arranged Dad's funeral any better. I can't thank you all enough. There was a couple of issues but quickly rectified. They really looked after us as a family. I hope to think we was as kind to them as they was to us. Thank you.
The team at W English in Woodford Green did a wonderful job when they handled the funeral of our dear friend Jean recently.
The whole process was managed in a considerate and professional manner and a "Nothing was too much trouble" attitude.
Absolutely excellent.
Both Rochelle and Slavic (apologies if I've spelt your name wrong mate) ensured both the run up and the day itself went as smoothly as possible. Can't recommend them enough.
Following the quick death of my wife at St. Joes in Hackney, I was in the dark as to what funeral directors to choose and a mate who lives in Bow recommended W English's, as they've had to use them a couple times in the past couple years. I took the plunge, not realising most people book before going in. But that wasn't an issue for Rochelle, who saw us straight away and really put me at ease. Communication throughout was simple for the flowers, the crem songs, orders of service etc and the evening before, Slavic called me to ensure everything was kosher with timings, when things will happen and on the day itself, he was brilliant. Straight 5 Stars!!!
My family and I cannot thank Rochelle and Slawek enough for their professionalism, kindness and empathy. The worst time of our lives was made just that little bit more bearable by the way they treated us all. Mums funeral was as perfect as a funeral can be. Rochelle talked us through every step and made the whole process as simple as possible for us. Slawek went above and beyond by opening out of hours just so that we could see mum as much as we wanted!
The celebrant (James Duke) recommended by Rochelle was the perfect choice to conduct mums service.
Thank you all so much!
I just had to leave a review regarding the outstanding services of W. English & Son. I found Dawn and Slawek, (and Rochelle, whom I only met briefly, but was also lovely) from the outset. to be highly efficient, friendly and sympathetic during the very sad passing of my dear mum. Dawn was compassionate, but at the same time extraordinarily professional and I definitely felt in safe hands immediately. She took away all of my worries, sorting out everything for me, including the organsing of the most beautiful floral tributes I've ever seen, and she calmed me down when I was flustered on bad days. Also Slawek on the day of mums funeral was the epitome of total professionalism. He and his team were respectful, kind and courteous. Slawek took.total control of the situation for which I'll be eternally grateful to.ensure everything went according to plan, which it did. He looked immaculate, and the cars were spectacular. He was amazing in the chapel before and after and gently guiding us as to what would happen next. He exhibited total professionalism from beginning to end. I would therefore highly recommend W.English for all.your funeral requirements as they are outstanding.
